What a week.
We came into our birthday celebrations hoping you'd enjoy the pastries, claim a few coffees, and maybe leave a review or two. What actually happened was something else entirely.
The Week's Numbers
We gave away
1,050 free pastries
1,407 free coffees (and counting!)
We welcomed 2,200 additional visitors compared to a typical week.
40+ 5* Google reviews have come in from customers who took a moment to share their experience (that really helps independents like us!)
Every pastry, every coffee, every face that found us this week — it all means something.
What the Week Told Us
Birthday week turned out to be a pretty clear signal. The support, the footfall, the messages, the reviews — confirmed our efforts to focus on core basics really work. As the only independent coffee shop in Denmark Hill station, that really does make a difference in and around the local economy.
It was brilliant to chat with so many of you in person. What struck us was how many conversations touched on experiences spanning the full year — customers who have been with us from the very beginning sharing what SAPHI has meant to them through the entire year since we launched.
The People Who Made It Happen
To Fingal's Bakery — thank you for crafting every one of those mini pastry bites so beautifully. They were exceptional, and they were exeptionally well received during service!
To PLOT Roasting — as always, the quality of coffee roast speaks for itself
Head Barista Kas and the SAPHI barista team... dialling in the coffees to taste beautifully every day, you smashed it.
To 5loyalty — 1,407 coffees claimed through the SAPHI app (and counting!) without a hitch. That's down to you.
To Kate and Josie — thank you for making sure the week looked and felt as good as it was through photography and socials.
And to the entire SAPHI team — Asta, Kas, Kasia, Sadie, Milo, Finley, Nia, Irina, Nikki and Laimonas. Early starts, overnights, relentless energy, and a level of care that never dropped. We're incredibly proud to work alongside every one of you.
From Sam and Elise — thank you.
What's Next?
Birthday week may have finished, but the celebrations haven't quite ended — the issued birthday app vouchers remain valid throughout April.
Easter Chocolate Crodoughs coming to the bakery bar this week,
New filter coffee lot lands in April, a Rwandan Natural, tasting of beautiful red stone fruits.
SAPHI Coffee Home Subscription launching in May,
'Closing Time Bag' Launch — SAPHI's take to reducing food waste, a mixed bag of reduced excess stock items left over available through the app at the end of each day. to grab on closing for a steal.
Year two starts now, see you at the coffee bar.
